    Description

WWII Royal Yugoslavian Army Officer’s M-1939 Dagger
Oficirska Zadruga in Cyrillic letters (Officer’s Cooperative) TM. An example of this RARE dagger can be found on page 53 of Kurt Glemser’s A Guide to Military Dress Daggers, Volume I, and also on page 263 of World of Dress Daggers 1900 – 1945, Volume I, by Robert J. Berger.
Kingdom of Yugoslavia army officer’s M-1939 dagger; straight double edged blade with engraving on the ricasso - double headed eagle (Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia); hilt has brass fittings with loops in tact with double headed eagle (eagle heads have worn away from in-out wear); pommel in the shape of the Royal Yugoslav Crown; hilt decorated with oak leafs; S-shaped cross-guard; wood grip with original wire still present; original weather washer on base of blade; wear on ricasso from in-out movements; patina on metal surfaces; blade length 9 1/8in (23 cm), overall length closed 14 ¾ in (37.5 cm); overall near very fine condition (see photos).
Footnote: These daggers were last used in the short war against Germany in April 1941 in Yugoslavia. After the fall of Yugoslavia, Croatian officers used this dagger, but the Yugoslav eagle emblem was changed to a Croatian emblem, meaning that these rare daggers were in use only for a short period of about 2 years.
