    Description

    For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Extremely Rare Pre-War Circa 1938 Sheaffer Oversized Balance Demonstrator Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
    This fountain pen cap and barrel are in good condition with no chips or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There is some internal crazing on the top and bottom points for the cap and barrel as seen in image 7. There is some scratching in the inside of the barrel - I did not want to buff or polish these out, out of fear of compromising the pen. The color of the Demonstrator is a greenish-yellow and is period celluloid. I have hand cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Added a new sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Lever.
    The cap has the Sheaffer Gold Plated Clip that displays wear along the edging of the clip. The gold filled cap banding is displays no wear and the lever is in excellent condition with no wear to the gold-filled material. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. PATENTED IN U.S.A.". There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This is a Sheaffer Oversized Balance Fountain Pen that measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.
    I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling system works as it was originally intended to.
    This Sheaffer has the proper 14K Two-tone LIFETIME NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .58mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine stroke/line that varies between .51mm to .55mm when measured with digital calipers. The nib performs smoothly when writing. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-black Ink.
    This will be a Holy Grail Sheaffer Fountain Pen for the discerning collector. Those that follow vintage Sheaffer know that Pre-War Sheaffer Demonstrators are extremely scarce and this one is in Fine to Very Fine Condition. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and is ready to write with or just add to your writing arsenal collection.
