These early Bone rules were used extensively in charting or course plotting on paper maps by ship's navigators in the 1700-1800's.  They were also used by draftsmen and Architects of the day.  This rule was designed to allow the user to transfer a parallel line to another place on the diagram or map.  This is identified as an early instrument by the ornate Georgian concentric circle decorations on the brass folding hinges.  The rule is in
Very Good 'used' condition with no chips but it does have one very short tight hairline partial crack (see pics).  There are also some very minor scratches to the surface finish.
    There are no owner marks.
This is hard to find 'MAKER MARKED' parallel rule for your
    collection!
